Privacy and data

How your Matrix data is handled

American Polling Company operates My Political Matrix. This Privacy Policy is effective September 16, 2026 and describes the information the service processes, why it is used, and the choices available to you.

Your answers are sensitive

Assessment responses and derived results may reveal or reflect political opinions or preferences. My Political Matrix processes these responses to calculate and explain your Matrix and for the research, analytical, security, and product-improvement purposes described below. The service does not claim to know how anyone votes.

Information we process

  • Contact information: your email address when you request a result or recovery link.
  • Assessment information: responses, skipped and Not sure states, question and option identifiers, response history, presentation and provenance references.
  • Derived information: Matrix coordinates or estimates, dimension evidence, uncertainty information, result snapshots, and model, question-set, scoring, methodology, and baseline versions.
  • Optional demographics: broad details only when you choose to share them. They are separate from political scoring, not required to receive a Matrix, and are not automatically used to determine placement.
  • Technical and operational information: session and resume information, browser or device details made available by hosting and security systems, logs, network/security signals, local storage or similar technologies, and allowlisted analytics events.
  • User-generated operational information: feedback you submit, share-link creation, and public result-sharing configuration.

Why we use information

We use information to provide the assessment; calculate the Matrix; save and resume sessions; return results; send requested result emails; preserve historical result snapshots; improve question design; evaluate methodology; understand aggregate product usage; detect abuse and security issues; operate and improve the service; conduct research and statistical analysis; create aggregate or appropriately de-identified insights; and comply with applicable obligations.

Your email and your result

When you complete the Matrix, we ask for your email address so we can deliver your result link. We also use it, occasionally, to invite you to retake the Matrix as the questions and scoring improve. Your responses, in aggregated and de-identified form, are used to improve the instrument, build comparison baselines, and support our polling and political research. We do not sell your email address. Every non-result email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops all invitations.

Identity is separate from political observations

Where the architecture supports it, contact identity is stored separately from response and result records using an opaque respondent identifier. This separation does not make data anonymous or mathematically impossible to re-identify. We do not describe the underlying records as anonymous.

Retention

Information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to provide and maintain the service, preserve result and history functionality, conduct research and statistical analysis, develop and validate methodology, prevent abuse and protect security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. We may delete, aggregate, or de-identify information when appropriate. Retention practices are subject to operational and legal review and may vary by data category.

Research and analytical partners

We may share appropriately aggregated and/or de-identified information with research or analytical partners, including Psephos, for research, statistical analysis, methodology development, aggregate political analysis, and product or model improvement. This pathway is separate from selling email lists, sharing marketing lists, or publishing identifiable respondent answers. Partner data must not include email addresses, names, contact records, respondent or auth IDs, resume capabilities, share tokens, raw session capabilities, IP addresses, or other directly identifying information. Record-level sharing requires explicit additional review.

See the Data Principles and Subprocessors pages for the public trust and infrastructure boundaries.

Email and marketing choices

Entering an email to receive or recover a Matrix result does not constitute marketing consent. Result-return and other requested service emails remain separate from marketing communications. Marketing consent must be an explicit affirmative choice and is false by default. You can update marketing preferences at Unsubscribe; unsubscribing does not delete your assessment or stop a result email you explicitly request.

Sharing is your choice

Results are private by default where the current flow supports private result access. If you intentionally create a public share link, anyone with that link may be able to view the limited displayed Matrix and explanatory text. Public shares do not include answers, email, demographics, respondent IDs, or session data. Consider where you post a link because recipients may copy or redistribute it.

Service providers and analytics

When configured, Supabase provides private database storage and receives the categories needed to persist assessment, contact, session, result, and operational records. When configured, Resend delivers requested result emails and receives the destination email and message content needed for delivery. Hosting and runtime providers process network requests and operational logs as part of serving the application. The current repository does not include a PostHog SDK or send political answers or coordinates to PostHog; product analytics use an explicit allowlist of funnel events and exclude answer text, scores, coordinates, demographics, email, and capability tokens.

Provider details are listed on the Subprocessors page.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No system can guarantee absolute security. Access to private application data is restricted to trusted server paths and the private data schema.

Your requests and age treatment

The service is intended for people 18 years and older. We do not knowingly solicit children through product copy. You may request access, export, correction where relevant, or deletion by emailing privacy@mypoliticalmatrix.com. We will use the information needed to locate the relevant records and respond according to the available operational procedures; we do not promise automated self-service.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when the service, data practices, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will identify the current version. Questions and privacy requests should go to privacy@mypoliticalmatrix.com. General support is available at support@mypoliticalmatrix.com.
